Slanetz and Bartley LAB-AGAR™
500 gm, Selective-differentiation medium for the quantitative determination of enterococci in water, food and other samples. The sodium azide present in the medium inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria. The differentiating agent of the medium is TTC, which is reduced by enterococci to formazone. The resulting formazone is absorbed by enterococci cells, so that the grown colonies are characterised by a uniform dark pink to brown colour. Some strains of enterococci can grow as colonies with a transparent or white rim and a red centre. Medium according to ISO 7899-2
